How to Fix Google Calendar Error 404?

How to Fix Google Calendar Error 404?

One of the most popular features Google has launched recently is the Google Calendar, which can also be enabled or disabled. With organizational gems such as a custom birthday calendar, the Google app can retrieve birthdays from contacts and display birthday cards every year – but what happens when you get the error 404 instead?

For unknown parameters, things Google does not understand yet, Google Calendar returns “google calendar not found error 404” when importing or exporting different calendars at once. However, the error does not occur when any one individual calendar is exported.

This specific error occurs especially when third-party applications use the Google Calendar API in their app or website.

Even though Google is working to bring a permanent fix to this issue, users are still unhappy with the lag in progress.

In this article, we will be discussing the Google Calendar API and the Google Calendar error: what it means, how it occurs, and how to fix Google error 404.

Google Calendar API

Google Api background operation

Google API in action

The Google Calendar API has the ability to integrate the user’s mobile or web application with Google Calendar.

As a result, this creates new avenues for user engagement. With the help of this API, users are able to find and view public calendar events, and with the proper authorization, users can access private calendars as well, as well as work with other calendar-related objects.

Users can also achieve deeper integration with the Google Calendar, which allows them to create, display, or sync with their own calendar’s data.

Later on, this integration has the ability to enhance user experience in numerous ways.

Common Google Calendar API Errors

The API returns two levels of error information to its users:

Users usually face 4xx errors while using the Calendar API, some of which are mentioned below.

The Google Calendar 404 Error is known as the “404: Not Found”.

It is returned when the specified resource is not found during the execution of different situations, such as executing a get request, accessing the calendar, updating an event, creating an event, etc.

What is error 404 on Google means?

Error 404 on google means “Not Found” according to Google Calendar API. It is returned when a specific resource is not found. Different users get this error in different situations.

Some get it while executing a simple get request, while others get it when accessing the calendar in general.

Some other reasons can involve the requested resource not existing on a provided ID or trying to gain unauthorized access to calendars.

However, the 404 Google error can also happen because of a service outage or a server crash. It is pretty standard and happens from time to time.

Solutions for Google Calendar 404 not Found

Solutions for Google Calendar 404 not Found

The best minds at Google are currently working to develop a permanent solution to the 404 error. A fix should be out anytime soon, but temporary procedures are available to use.

As with all unofficial fixes, this might not work out the way you want. Giving these a try would be a great option, still:

  • The desired Google Calendar should be public. Private calendars are more prone to return this error. While saving, make clear instructions to save the calendar as a public instead of private one.
  • Employ the use of exponential backoff, where you periodically retry a failed request repeatedly while inserting a slight delay. As an example, you might retry the request after 1 second and increase the time as a multiple of 2. This method improves bandwidth usage and, at the same time, maximizes the number of retry requests.

However, if a Google Calendar 404 error occurs while updating an event. It might be because you are missing proper XML namespace declarations on the entry. Ensure that this is correct before continuing.

What is Google Calendar 404 Error?

The Google Calendar 404 error known as 404: Not Found is the error message returned when a specified resource is not found.

A 404 error can also occur if the user has not added or has missed the proper XMLNS namespace declaration while making that particular entry.

How do I fix temporary error 404 Google?

There is a possibility that Google might return “Google Calendar temporary error 404” to the user because of the user’s slow internet.

As a general piece of advice, users should consider connecting to other networks and then retry. Deleting the browser cache and disabling any third-party extensions can aid this process.

How do I test a 404 error?

The best practice is to run a test with selected participants from your target market while keeping these tips in mind to get the best results:

  • Give your participants context before sending them to the error page.
  • Refrain from letting them know that you’re running a 404 error test.
  • Ask participants what they expect to see from the link.

How to Manually Place Adsense Ads in WordPress

How to Manually Place Adsense Ads in WordPress

Adsense is the world’s most popular ad network and if you are using it, you might have thought about how to manually place AdSense ads. Adsense is that ad network with which most publishers start their website monetization. And although many other ad networks, like AdThrive and Mediavine, exist, Adsense remains the most popular one globally.

Adsense is so popular that in fact, as many as 38 million websites around the world are using it as of August 2021. Google proudly states that they pay around 68% of their advertising revenue to publishers every year. A good way to look at this would be to imagine the revenue figures for your own website. Imagine if your WordPress website made $100 in ad revenue through Adsense. Google will pay you $68 from that $100. Pretty sweet right? This is only one of the reasons why Google Adsense remains so popular amongst advertisers.

But you probably already know this. You’re here because you either faced an issue with Adsense and want a quick fix for it, or you want to learn how to manually place AdSense ads on your WordPress website. Well, we will explore both topics in detail in this article. While you are at it you should also give a look into how to change the author in WordPress.

Adsense Ads – Auto Ads vs Manual Ads

adsense auto ads

Google Adsense has been around for a long time. They have vastly improved how they serve ads across the internet. From text-only ads to image ads, to video ads, Google knows which ads to display on which platform and for which audience. When you first make an account on Adsense and get your website approved, you will have mainly two options to choose from when it comes to displaying ads.

Adsense Auto Ads

Adsense auto ads are just that, ads that are placed automatically by Adsense across your website. Most websites have very similar features that include the following.

  • Homepage
  • Blog
  • Sidebar
  • Footer
  • and many similar others

Google Adsense recognizes these features on different pages of your website. When it has done so, it automatically places the code for ads across your website based on the following factors.

  • Page layout
  • Amount of content on different pages
  • Any existing Google ads

Google does highlight the benefit of potentially increasing your revenue from auto ads but we have personally experienced mixed results. We can assume that there are lots of people who have experienced an increase in revenue by using auto ads but since it didn’t work for one of our websites, we wanted to experiment with manual ads.

If you want to know how we set up auto Adsense ads on our website and the features we played around with, you can read about them in the article given below.

  • How to Add Adsense Auto Ads on WordPress

Adsense Manual Ads

manual adsense ad units

Now let’s look at AdSense manual ads. These are ads you place manually on your website. Nothing more, nothing less. There is certainly a lot of work that needs to be done to get them to work correctly, but if you do things right, there is a lot more money to be earned.

To start off, you need to check which of the different types of ad units you want to use. For this article, we will only focus on the Display Ads Ad Unit. This is because this article is meant to teach you the basics of adding manual ads to your WordPress website.

How to Manually Add Adsense Ads to your WordPress website

To manually place Adsense ads, you need the code to paste on your website. You can get your ad unit code by going into your Adsense dashboard, then going to the Ads tab, and then selecting the By Ad unit tab as shown below.

image of how-to-manually-place-adsense-ads-in-wordpress

You then have to go down to locate the Ad Units you have created for one of your approved websites and click on the < > icon. This is shown below in the picture. This is nestled between the Reports icon and the Edit icon.

picture showing how-to-manually-place-adsense-ads-in-wordpress

After clicking on the icon, you will see the ad unit code on the next screen. This is the code you will place on your website in order to get Google Adsense to display ads. You have to copy the entire code as it appears on the screen. You can also use the Copy Snippet button to copy the entire code to your clipboard. An example of the ad you need to copy is shown below.

Once you have the AdSense code ready, you need to paste it in an appropriate location for the ads to start displaying. Let’s look at some of the most common places where you can manually place the code for your AdSense ad units.

Place Adsense Ads in Articles

To get your Adsense codes to display within your articles, you have to paste the code mentioned above within the content. To do this, you have added a new block within WordPress and choose the block title ‘Custom HTML. When you have selected this block it will show like in the image below. We were trying to place an ad between the third paragraph and the first image in our article.

insert adsense code

The next step is to paste the AdSense code in the area that shows ‘Write HTML’ in the image above. That’s it. You have to press ‘Update’ to get the article to save changes in order to get the ad to display.

Common Adsense Issues and their Fixes

Adsense, like any other coded platform, is prone to issues users face from time to time. While it is entirely possible that you will not face all the issues listed below, there is a high chance you will face one of them. We took our time when writing about these issues and their fixes to provide a more comprehensive guide. Let’s take a look at them one by one.

Why can’t I see ads on my website after I have placed the AdSense code?

google adsense no ads

If you have correctly placed the AdSense code on your website and you are constantly refreshing the page and still not seeing ads show up, the issue could most probably be caching. We have discussed multiple fixes for caching issues WordPress users may face but let’s look at caching with AdSense in mind.

In simple terms, a cache is data temporarily stored on your local browsers, a hosting server, or a content delivery network to speed up the loading times of a website. Essentially, the speed at which your website loads depends a lot on how far away physically the website’s data is. If your website’s data is stored on your device, it will load almost instantly. If the content delivery network (CDN) has a server near your, it will take a little longer. Your website viewed from Chicago that is hosted in Tokyo might take a few more seconds.

Most browsers store a snapshot of the websites you visit for the exact same purpose. So, even after you’ve placed the AdSense code on your website, ads might not show. Google recommends that you wait a few minutes anyway. But if the ads do not show up after a while, you should clear your browser’s cache. We normally tend to ignore the basic ‘clear cache’ solutions. But this world for us almost every single time. WP Firsthand only shares advice based on our first-hand experience.
